well, u can go to babies r us website and they have a list for ppl who are going to register..of course it has a lot of things on there that you don't need, but if you weed through you can get what you need out of it...the things i liked;found most useful, etc......

.i would def recommend:
a diaper genie 2; idk why ppl don't like them, there is NO smell in my dd 's room
changing table..will save your back, good for diap changes, clothes changes, sponge baths, etc and you have shelves to store your new baby must haves....i have canvas bins on the shelves to store things that are good to have in reach or easily available...
monitor--i like the graco imonitor, recently bought a second one for another room in the house bc i liked the other one so much, it has been working well for over 8 mos now, and it has good range, battery life, and i can hear EVERYTHING; never any interference....it works great..
boppy pillow with cotton covers, soft ones don't fit as well for some reason
lots of baby hangers, and baby hangers with clips to keep outfits together

lots of diapers , make sure wherever you buy them will let you exchange them for a diff size if you need to even after the return period...brus let me do that, and buy a small pack of a couple brands to see which you prefer before you open the big boxes...wipes, lots of them, without alcohol or fragrance! we use swaddlers diapers and pampers sensitive wipes; no rashes, no reactions to their ingredients, diapers hold a lot when they have too and the netting tends to keep the wet off her bottom...
lots of baby washclothes, you may have to use them on baby's bum if it is really sensitive and gets a rash....and baby towels, but you could use your reg towels if money is an issue

play yard, get one with bassinet feature if you want to, easier to keep baby in your room for a while before putting them in crib in their room=we have chicco discovery and it is awesome, has more padding than most, easy to wash..machine wash, most are wipe down...very sturdy, has nightlight, vibration, etc and a flip up change table, has wooden slats that slide in under mattress for support...not that much more exp than the others and much better in my opinion

bottles--really liked playtex ventaire advanced when she was young, more pieces but it's easy to get them clean when the top and bottom comes off...and they vent through the bottom instead of the nip so no bubbles or foam going back up into baby's milk; they will leak if you don't put them together correctly, but we have had no probs with them and have never had to replace any parts on them..if u decide on them and have leaks, email me and i will explain how to keep them from leaking...:O)

Anyone have some Tips for traveling long distance with a baby?

i am going to be driving for 11 hours with an 7 month old for the first time and was wondering if anyone had some helpful tips as far as what to bring with me to make it go as smooth as possible thank you!!

Are you travelling alone? If you aren't travelling alone I'd suggest someone sit in the back with your baby periodically.

Also, make sure you bring some snacks, and enough formula (if that's the case) and be prepared to stop atleast every hour or 2. Note your travelling time with probably increased.

Invest in some attachable car seat toys and some fun music you can sing along to.

Bring your baby's favourite blanket or teddy along.

What do you think of the Baby Trend brand stroller/car seat travel system?

Particularly the "Venture" style. And, did anyone order it direct from the website? If so, where can you take it if there is a problem?

Love the stroller, hate the car seat, would never buy the travel system.

You can try out the strollers or at least some of the models at Target and Toys R Us/Babies R Us. I love them, they're comfortable for my kids, easy to maneuver, easy to go through sand, dirt, grass, whatever, and I haven't tried out a nicer stroller. I love the large wheels that are bicycle wheels so that it's easy to fix them and for them to go over obstacles. :)

However, I don't like the car seat because you can try them at Target as well, and you have to put the two hooks together then push them into the seat-belt latch, and when working with a restless baby that would be a nightmare. Graco and other infant seats let you push in one side then the other, which makes it a lot easier when you're working with a restless baby.

I also don't like people putting the baby in a car seat outside of the car. It makes the car seat at risk for knocking against things and becoming damaged, as well as it curves the baby. SIDS research says over and over that we need to lay the baby flat or be carrying the baby, and research has proven that while car seats save their lives in an accident you should limit their time in a car seat (or anything that tilts them) to less than 3 hours in a day and no more than 1 hour at a time, and basically not use it in anything but the car.

So the stroller is nice, get the stroller, but order it through something like Target or Walmart's or babies r us so that you can take it there if there's a problem. Skip the car seat, get one that is better and will work better. Carry the baby for the first 4 months, either your arms or a Moby Wrap for a cheaper alternative to something like an Ergo, it's really not hard. Do a search on car-seat breathing and you'll find the studies done about the dangers.

Add: Looked at the stroller. It's not the jogger that I prefer. If you're going to go with that style of stroller, look at the Chicco strollers. They lay completely flat, so it's better for the SIDS aspect, and have better reviews. I honestly wouldn't get a Baby Trend stroller that's not the jogger because they don't push well, don't maneuver, don't move well. It's all about the wheels and those little wheels always are a pain in the neck on strollers.

This is one similar to what I thought you were talking about. They're approved for babies about 2 months up.

Best way to travel with baby cross country via car?

Our family is moving 950 miles (a 14 hour drive) cross country. We will be driving our car with the baby in the back seat. My husband thinks it's a good idea to give our baby some sort of medicine to make the baby drowsy so that we don't have a screaming baby for 14 hours, I don't think this is a good idea. Has anyone else been in this situation or have any suggestions as to what to do to keep baby happy and make as minimal stops possible?

Sit in the back seat with the baby. Have plenty of toys available. Plan for the trip to take at least double the time- you'll be making lots of stops for diaper changes, feedings, and general "get me out of this car seat" time

Travel sleeping solution/travel dilemma?

This is a 2 part question.

1. I will be traveling to Florida in February when my son is 8 months old. In general, I have no trouble tossing the baby on the floor to sleep (this is my first) but by then he will be portable and able to move around as he pleases. When I put him down to bed and leave the room, I want to be sure that he's in the same place (and SAFE) when I return. However, I have a problem with the pack and play (too big, too bulky, and really difficult to open and close, in my opinion not to mention a pain in the butt to transport especially now that airlines are charging per checked item!!). Are there any other sleep solutions out there, something that will keep my son contained without him being able to climb out of it but something that is safe and won't collapse or anything else freaky?

2. We are driving to the beach this weekend and my son really dislikes his car seat. I can imagine him screaming for the entire 2 1/2 hr drive. He's 3 months old so I really don't want to give him a dose of Benadryl to help him sleep (I know, it's awful, but I'd probably do it if he were a bit older) but I also don't want to be stopping every 20 minutes to soothe him and I DON'T want to listen to him scream. Any suggestions from moms who've faced this scenario?

1. = try the peapod travel tent for infants to sleep in, its great. I used it for my daughter.

2. I hope you are kidding. DO NOT GIVE A BABY BENEDRYL because you dont want to hear him cry. That is truely awful. I take my daughter everywhere and we travel alot and I have never thought about that. If she cries, i giver he a bottle, a binky, a toy. Sometimes I pull over if needed. But I dont resort to drugs for MAKING my baby sleep

What kind of toys worked when flying with kids(less than a year old) on long flights ?

I have a 10 month old, will be flying to Asia, I have purchased a seat for her but she does not enjoy being strapped in the car seat for long. I am contemplating checking in the car seat, at the same time wondering if the airlines provides you with necessary things to secure a child this young ? My first time flying with her so want to do every bit of research so make the journey comfortable for her and other fellow passengers. Please feel free to pass on any tips as well. Thanks.

Weâve only flown with a really young child once, and it wasnât as long of a flight as youâll be taking. My son was 13 months old, so a little older than your baby.

We checked the car seat and did not bring it on the plane. Weâd flown with our daughter once when she was a toddler and used the car seat on the plane. It was awful--the seats are so close together that she literally had nowhere to put her feet. The man sitting in front of her insisted on reclining his seat, which made it worse. If she bumped his seat (which she could not help doing every time she moved), he turned around and glared at us. He even made a few comments about it, and when I tried to explain that it wasnât the poor kidâs fault, he got very huffy. We decided to never try to bring a car seat on the plane again. I donât know why the airlines suggest it, when they donât even fit onto those stupid seats!

To keep my son occupied--we brought along a few quiet toys, some small books, and LOTS of snacks. Itâs not a tactic I normally use, but to keep him happy on the plane I pulled out something new each time he got restless. His favorite activity was searching for Cheerios in a small box. Iâd put a few Cheerios at a time into the little box, and heâd dig around for them. We also brought some of those Crayola Color Wonder markers and paper. The markers only write on the paper, so donât make a mess. Your baby might be a bit young for something like that, but if she is starting to enjoy scribbling on paper, the markers might keep her busy for a while.

Iâd suggest getting some small, inexpensive, quiet toys that your daughter has never seen before. They will be new to her and more interesting than her own toys. Pull them out one at a time, as needed, whenever she gets restless. Sheâll probably also like playing with your keys or your cell phone--my kids always liked those things more than they liked their toys! Bring along some picture books that are new to her as well. The novelty of everything will keep her occupied for longer.

Also, itâs a good idea to have something on hand for your child to drink during take-off and landing so her ears donât hurt. I donât know what the current regulations are for bring things like juice boxes or bottles onto an airplane, but make sure you check that on the airlineâs website before you leave.

Please can anyone give some advice on how to make this smoother and simpler for me and my child. I've been flying internationally with my children since they were 2 months (now 7&5), and here are some tips and advice that have always worked for me:

1.)Since you already have to buy a seat for your daughter, I advise using a CRS (Child Restraint System) because it is safe for the child, makes them feel secure, is more comfortable for both parent and child, and gives you the opportunity to relax a bit.

A CRS is an airline-approved alternative to using a hard-backed seat and is approved for use on aircraft and for use in motor vehicles. Many people confuse it with a regular car seat, which it is not.

2.) The best time of day to fly is whenever you are comfortable. If you can find a flight that will take off around your childs nap or bedtime, that would be easier, but of course we all know it doesn't always work out that way. The main thing is that you pick a day that you are comfortable with and try to be as relaxed as possible because your daughter will be able to pick up on any anxiousness or anxiety you might have.


3.) For take-offs and landings, the best thing you can do is give her a drink (milk, water, juice - it doesn't matter) or a pacifier.

New regulations allow you to take beverages (including water) from home as long as they are less than 3oz, OR beverages (including water) of any size that you have purchased from inside the security area onto planes. Save your money when it comes to buying water though because the stewards/stewardess' will provide you with hot or cold water (or any other drink) free at any time that you request, no matter how many times you request it.

Another trick is that if your daughter is not taking to the pacifier or wanting to drink, gently rub her neck from the chin down to the chest several times - this will cause a swallowing motion which will help with the ears popping.


4.) Make sure to pack plenty of things to entertain your daughter. A few of her favorite toys, books, a portable DVD player and one or two movies if you have one, and any comfort things such as a blankie. The Fa's will also provide you with a toy or coloring book for your daughter also.

5.)Take your daughter to the store and buy her a small carry-on bag of her choice. Let her pick out a few new (but inexpensive) toys that will be used only once she is on the plane. Be sure to buy a few without her knowing so she will have a surprise when she opens up her bag.


6.) Pack a few instant hot/cold cereals, instant rice, and other just-add-water packets (age appropriate, of course). The stewards/stewardess' will provide you with hot or cold water upon request. You can also bring a limited amount of baby food and a few other non-perishable snack items. Dried fruit make a wonderful snack (and they're healthy too!). Drinks will be provided free at any time that you request, no matter how many times you request.


7.) Be sure to pack 2-3 changes of clothes for your daughter. You will need this in case she gets sick, spills something on herself, or in case your luggage gets lost. Also bring any medications that you might need for her should she get sick. Do NOT give your daughter medicine with the hopes of it making her sleep. This is not only cruel, but dangerous as well.


8.) Last but not least, if help is offered to you, take it.
