Online flight sites allow you compare flight ticket prices of various carriers in all sections. If you have a clear game plan, you can reduce the amount you spend on air tickets by as much as 60% or even 80%. Constant research and flexibility in travel plans are the key to getting these huge discounts, which leave big money in your pocket. Consider these five tips to save $100 to $10,000 in a year.
Book Early
Booking at least two months in advance can give big discounts. The airline companies are looking to fill up their seats fast. When you book early, before others finalize their travel plans, you can get ultra cheap tickets. This is especially true about budget airlines, which have one or two tickets available on dirt-cheap rates. Try to find them to save some serious money.
Book Last Minute
This tip is for persons who can alter travel plans at the notice of a minute. There are last minute cancellations in all airlines. The planes often fly with those seats empty. Such seats are usually available on sale, but only on the last minute. If you are prepared for a trip, the last minute bargains give you great discounts, often surpassing the early-bird benefits. However, you canât count on such bargains for any specific flight, day, or even week.
Make Use of Frequent Flyer Miles
Credit card companies, airline companies, and travel agents have different schemes in this direction. Depending on your travel patterns, identify one plan that will work best for you. Then redeem the flyer miles for free tickets before they expire.
Subscribe to Air Ticket Alerts
If you fly frequently, it is a good idea to subscribe to the advertisement newsletters from different airlines, travel agents, etc. In most cases, they will send you great deals as and when they are available. If your favourite website does not send out such mails, make sure you check the site at least once a week.
Be Flexible With Your Travel Plans
It will be easier to get discount flight tickets if you are flexible with your travel dates and arrangements. This is not usually possible if you are on a business trip, as the schedules canât be toyed with. However, for the pleasure travelers, this is quite possible.
A good understanding of how the airline companies, travel agents, etc work can give you big savings. Add to that a bit of adventure and flexibility. Then you will be traveling for a fraction of what others spend.

Airport advice for traveling with a 3yr old?
ericakamp1
This will be my son's first time on an airplane. Any advice or any comments that you would like to share when it comes to airport security, or keeping him busy while in flight. He's three, should he chew something so his ears don't pop? I don't let him have gum! We are flying direct, RI to Florida, 3hr flight. Any suggestions to calm his nerves if he starts to get scared....what works for your little ones?
Thanks in advance!
Answer
I went on my first plane when I was like a month old... so I have tons of plane experience!
My suggestion is book your seats so you are sitting together... people book their tickets online and if you dont book your seat, you might end up sitting away from him! this happened on our plane... a mother didnt pre-book her seats so her 3 yr old daughter was beside me and my sister and she was on the other side of the plane
so I gave her my seat... but not everyone is that nice :P
Bring his favourite toy... I LOVED my BIG pluto stuffed animal, and my mom brought it for me when I was younger on the plane so that I didnt get scared.
also bring lots of gummy candies... such as skittles or swedish berries... anything that will keep him sucking while the plain is taking off and landing...
Bring a colouring book and crayons... or bring your (Charged) laptop and watch a movie on the plane (make sure to turn off wifi finder on your laptop :P )
other then that just keep telling him that everything will be okay, and that you will be landing soon (If he gets upset) :)
also build up the trip like keep saying "OMG were going on the big plane soon! and then say We will go to the beach, or go shopping, or go to Disney, or see Grandma (Lol whatever your doing) to make him more excited!
good luck :D
